In 1937, a Seattle company operating as Marine Electrolysis Eliminator Company (MEECO), under a contract from the United States Department of Natural Resources developed a product for the removal of soot from wood-burning stand-by generators and power plants. The company trademarked the name “MEECO’S RED DEVIL” and introduced this product to the general public the same year.
